Colorado Votes to Legalize Shrooms!

As a result of the midterm elections on Tuesday, magic mushrooms and other psychedelic substances were no longer considered illegal for adults to possess in Colorado, making it the second state to do so.

The Associated Press projects that voters have approved Proposition 122, which will decriminalize using and possessing psilocybin and psilocin (the active ingredients in psychedelic mushrooms), DMT (the active ingredient in ayahuasca), mescaline (a hallucinogen that comes from a variety of cacti), and ibogaine.

With 92 percent of the vote counted, the Associated Press projects that voters have approved Proposition (a psychoactive drug that comes from the central African shrub iboga and is used as an experimental addiction treatment).

Residents of Colorado who are at least 21 years old will soon be able to consume shrooms at registered psilocybin healing centers while being supervised by medical professionals thanks to the Natural Medicine Health Act.

Mushrooms will not be available for purchase in retail establishments. The state may also choose to allow for the consumption of additional psychedelic substances, so long as they are done so under medical supervision.

In the year 2020, Oregon became the first state to legalize shrooms for therapeutic use in licensed institutions, and it also became the first state to decriminalize personal possession of any and all narcotics.

These facilities are scheduled to operate the following year. In order to participate in the program in Oregon, an individual is required to go to many visits and consume the mushrooms while being monitored at one of the psilocybin centers.

According to statements made to the Denver Post by co-proponents Kevin Matthews and Veronica Lightening Horse Perez, voters in Colorado “saw the benefit of regulated access to natural medicines, including psilocybin, so that people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), terminal illness, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues can heal.”

On the other side, on Tuesday night, dozens of cities and counties in Oregon were given the opportunity to opt-out of having shroom centers, and at least a few of them took advantage of this opportunity.

Marijuana use for recreational purposes was also successful at the midterm elections in the states of Maryland and Missouri; however, identical measures were defeated in the states of Arkansas, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

There are now 21 states where the recreational use of marijuana by adults is permitted.

The referendum in Colorado takes place in the midst of a larger psychedelic renaissance, during which towns such as Oakland, San Francisco, Denver, Ann Arbor, and Seattle have effectively decriminalized shrooms and other hallucinogenic plants.

Ketamine-assisted therapy, psychedelic retreats, and churches that serve shrooms are just some of the examples of practices that have entered the mainstream in recent years.
