Contrary to common belief, sheep are highly intelligent, problem-solving creatures. They are considered intellectually on par with pigs and have an IQ level close to cattle.

Sheep use a wide variety of vocalizations to express a range of emotions. The larger the vocal range essentially suggests a larger vocabulary, which correlates with intelligence.

So, if they’re not dumb enough to mindlessly march in circle like zombies, what the hell is with all these sheep mindlessly marching in circles like zombies? Is it aliens??

Science may have the answer and it’s not pretty. Infection by monocytogenes has been reported to be increasing in incidence and may be as high as 52% in farm animals, but overt clinical disease is considered rare.

Listeriosis, also called Circling Disease or Silage Sickness, is a disease of worldwide occurrence that can affect all ruminants as well as other animal species and humans. It is, therefore, of zoonotic importance.

According to scientific estimates, 3 out of every 4 new or emerging infectious illnesses in humans and more than 6 out of every 10 recognized infectious diseases in humans may be transmitted from animals.

Listeria infection is a foodborne bacterial illness that can be very serious for pregnant women, people older than 65 and people with weakened immune systems.

A flock of sheep has caused a stir after being spotted standing in bizarre concentric circles in a field in East Sussex, UK. The flock was spotted by a professor and caught on camera by a member of the public.

Listeriosis may essentially be turning sheep into zombies. More research is needed to confirm the theory.

You probably read the story by now where hundreds of sheep walked in circles for 10 days in Inner Mongolia, China. The mysterious sight has drawn many questions and speculations. A scientist from the UK says that it largely comes down to herd mentality. Veterinary professionals have not commented on this particular flock of sheep.

But it’s looking likely that Listeriosis or “circling disease” could be the culprit. That means these poor sheep essentially did turn into zombies.

Sheep are interesting creatures. They are the only animals besides humans to show an interest in same-gay sex, they have a ridiculous 320-degree field of vision thanks to rectangular pupils, and they can develop emotional cross species connections.

So, given their social and emotional complexity, imagine for a second you eat dinner one day and the bacteria enters through the mouth and enter the bloodstream where they multiply and spread rapidly to other organs.

The next thing you know, you’re vacant eyed, mindlessly marching in circles. You are a zombie. Yikes!
